Dive Bar at the End of the Road is a simple premise: A bunch of strangers from different backgrounds thrown together in an isolated setting from which they cannot escape by events out of their control, in this case a series of car crashes along a desolate stretch of road that leads them to the titular dive bar and its enigmatic bartender. From there, things take a decidedly Twilight Zone turn, as the stranded strangers discover that the woods beyond the bar contain more than they bargained for. Because these are no ordinary woods, and this is no ordinary bar.

I won’t spoil the surprise, but suffice to say that Dive Bar at the End of the Road is a suspenseful and unique take on the ‘cabin in the woods’ trope, and soon our gaggle of strangers are trying to survive the night in a place that gets decidedly creepier and more fantastical with each new plot twist, And through all of it, there is the bartender acting as a lynchpin to every strange event, and a silent, enigmatic customer who has been in the bar from the beginning, and seems to exactly what the hapless group have stumbled into. If only she would tell them…

This book is fast paced and full of surprises, and roars along with one terrifying sene after another until the twisty ending that will leave the reader with literary whiplash. A definite five star read from an accomplished author.
